STEER Academy launches first in-person Masterclass in Paris
On 21 May 2026, the STEER project successfully launched its first in-person STEER Academy Masterclass in Paris, hosted by L’Institut Paris Region and co-organised by POLIS. Bringing together more than 45 participants, the event marked an important milestone for the project’s educational and capacity-building ambitions.
The Masterclass gathered public authorities, mobility practitioners, policymakers, and stakeholders interested in the future of electric carsharing and sustainable urban mobility. Hosted at L’Institut Paris Region’s offices, the afternoon combined presentations, discussion, and interactive workshop sessions focused on one of the key challenges facing shared mobility today: how to make carsharing more inclusive and accessible.
The programme opened with a welcome speech from L’Institut Paris Region and continued with a series of expert presentations showcasing regional and European perspectives on carsharing policy and practice.

Île-de-France Mobilités presented its vision for the future of carsharing through the presentation “Regional Carsharing Roadmap / Feuille de route Autopartage et futur service public autopartage”, delivered by Aurélien Chusseau, Baptiste Le Paulouë and Claire Gohet. The session highlighted regional ambitions and ongoing reflections on the future role of carsharing as part of public mobility services.
Participants also heard from Brussels Mobility, where Martin Lefrancq presented “Car-sharing Public Policy in the Brussels Region / Politique publique en matière d’autopartage en Région bruxelloise”, offering insight into the policy landscape and public-sector approach to carsharing in the Brussels-Capital Region.
The discussion on inclusivity continued with Bram Seeuws from Way To Go, who introduced “Green Deal Inclusive Carsharing à Bruxelles: comment rendre l'autopartage plus inclusif”, sharing experiences and practical approaches for making shared mobility services more accessible and socially inclusive.
The second half of the Masterclass shifted from presentations to participation, hosted by Way To Go. Through an interactive workshop and restitution session on inclusive carsharing, delivered in both French and English, attendees explored barriers and opportunities linked to inclusive mobility and exchanged perspectives across different local and institutional contexts. At the end of the workshop, the participants could vote of the group who's work they appreciated the most, and Way to Go was kind enough to gift them their annual conference, Shared Mobility Rocks, merch.
The strong turnout and lively discussions demonstrated growing interest in integrated electric carsharing solutions and highlighted the value of creating spaces for peer learning and dialogue.
More than a single event: introducing the STEER Academy Masterclasses
The Paris Masterclass was not a standalone event: it marked the beginning of the series STEER Academy Masterclasses, a recurring educational programme designed as a learning journey around integrated e-carsharing.
The Academy aims to connect public authorities, policymakers, NGOs, mobility professionals, and other stakeholders interested in sustainable shared mobility. Throughout the lifetime of the STEER project, participants will have opportunities to deepen their knowledge through:
- 10+ online Academy sessions
- 5 in-person Masterclasses across Europe
- A future interactive e-learning course
The first online Academy session already took place on 28 April 2026, kicking off the programme and introducing participants to STEER’s approach and methodologies.
Far beyond carsharing operations alone, the STEER Academy explores the broader systems that shape successful e-carsharing deployment — including housing integration, charging and energy questions, governance models, and inclusive mobility planning.
By encouraging recurring participation across different sessions and formats, the Academy seeks to build an active European learning community and support long-term capacity building on integrated e-carsharing.
Participants interested in joining future Academy activities are encouraged to follow STEER’s journey online and become part of this growing network of practitioners and decision-makers.
